From 1893 until her death on January 22, 1901, Queen Victoria was depicted on Gold Sovereign coins in the dignified "Old Head" portrait, featuring a veil, diadem, and pearl necklace. The reverse side of the Sovereign features Saint George battling a dragon.

The reverse side features the Royal Coat of Arms.
It is composed of a gold-copper alloy (916.6/1000 fineness), similar to that of the Krugerrand.
