The Vienna Philharmonic has been produced by the Austrian Mint on behalf of the Austrian government since 1989.
It owes its rapidly growing popularity primarily to the fact that the Philharmonic is the first European gold coin with a fineness of 999.9/1000.
Although it also has a large fan base outside the European Union, its face value of 4 euros makes it particularly popular with European investors.
The proximity of the mint is also a plus for the Philharmonic. The short transport routes and the fact that the Austrian Mint also operates its own refinery ensure sufficient and fast deliveries.
The Vienna Philharmonic owes its name to the famous Austrian orchestra, which is one of the best in the world. The gold coin shows the large organ of the Vienna Musikverein on the front.
Below the organ are the weight of 1/25 oz, the fineness of 999.9, the year of minting and the face value of 4 euros.
Above this, you can see the engraved lettering ‘REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH’ (Republic of Austria).
The reverse side depicts several musical instruments used by the Philharmonic Orchestra, and the name of the orchestra and the gold coin, ‘WIENER PHILHAMRONIKER’, is inscribed along the upper edge.
Similar to the gold investment coins mentioned above, the Vienna Philharmonic is also available in sizes of 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz.
The 1/25 oz size was issued in 2014 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Vienna Philharmonic gold coin.
The coin comes in a plastic coin bag.
